What packaged water manufacturers need to know

FSSAI reclassified packaged drinking water and packaged natural mineral water as high-risk food categories effective 29 November 2024. The Scheme of Testing came into force on 1 January 2026 and requires source water to be tested by an FSSAI-notified, NABL-accredited laboratory before production begins, alongside batch-wise records of mineral additives, retesting following microbiological non-compliance, and documentation retention.

DALPL’s NABL accreditation covers the water-testing parameters called for by this requirement.
